Guitar Lessons
Instructors at Oak Shed Studios are professionals who teach on average between 20 to 30 private lessons per week. We tailor our lessons to the individual student allowing them to learn what they want to learn, while still progressing. If they want to become the best musician they can be, we provide great lesson plans to get them from beginner to advanced in the least amount of time possible. If your son or daughter is looking for fun beginner to intermediate lessons, we can help them with that, too. We have a large repertoire of popular songs that kids and adults enjoy learning. Also, we encourage you to bring your CDs/IPods/IPhones to the lesson so you can learn songs you like the most. However, if you strictly want to learn theory and more about your instrument, there are lesson plans designed specifically for that, as well. If you are an advanced player looking to improve your chops, or learn a type of theory or style that you are not familiar with, no problem! We enjoy working with other musicians and will give all the information we can within a lesson or two. You can also learn the following styles of music and the theory behind them – Blues, Metal, Rock, Country, Jazz, Surf, Punk, Pop, and Latin. The most important thing is having fun while learning, because life is too short to be stressed out!
How It Works
Lessons are held once a week at the studio. The time slot you reserve is dedicated to you, and will not be given to anyone else. You will only need to bring your guitar and a notebook to store your papers in. The teacher provides all materials, music, and notes in the lessons. If you can’t make it to a lesson for any reason, that’s no problem. Once per calendar month, you can miss a lesson with 24 hour notice and make that lesson up before the following calendar month occurs. Just contact your teacher to schedule a time on one of our make up days. Daily practice and lesson attendance are key to your success! Click here to sign up now!

Originally from Rhode Island, I have lived in Texas since 2007, and have played guitar since I was a teenager. Beginning on the acoustic guitar, I first learned all of my favorite songs from my favorite folk artists, like Joni Mitchell, Donovan, and Melanie. In later years, my musical tastes grew heavier and more diverse, and I began to draw influences from various bands and artists in hard rock and heavy metal. In later years, I took on independent study of music theory, focusing on jazz studies, which took my knowledge of music and the instrument to a whole new level. I have been lucky to play many different shows, including Austin music venues and wedding events, and have taught guitar lessons since early 2012. My philosophy on teaching guitar is that, apart from being fun, the journey of learning can be a fulfilling and enriching experience. Having a teacher is a great way to keep learning fun, personalized, and inspired. Having a friend to jam with is great, too!

In the beginning, listening to music was a different dimension for me. It caught my imagination and made me realize how wonderful this language was compared to the rest. I received my first guitar at age 7, but at the time I enjoyed playing drums the most. A life changing moment for me occurred at age 12 after watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughan. I was engrossed in studying primarily blues for the next five years. At that point, my tastes began to expand and I found myself listening to many virtuoso guitarists. I had the attitude that I would play guitar from sunrise to sunset as there was nothing else I wanted to do with my life.
I studied music theory at Austin Community College and then moved to Texas State University. I obtained a Bachelors degree in “Jazz Studies” from Texas State. I feel very fortunate to have played shows all over Texas and in Europe. I love all types of music including Metal, Classical, Film Scores, Rock, Flamenco, Blues, Techno and more. I aim to take students down a path that will allow them to reach their greatest goals. I want to show them that music is an endless beautiful universe of art that will give to them just as much as they give to it.
